Local Shelters
- Esterville Animal Shelter - 518-893-7451 - Greenfield Center, NY. This is a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Upstate New York. Estherville has been helping animals for over 50 years. Here animals can come and find unconditional love for as long as it takes to find the proper home.
- Guilderland Shelter - 518-456-2007 - This shelter is a facility for stray dogs and cats in the Town of Guilderland. All of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered and up to date on all shots.
- James A. Brennan Memorial Human Society - 518-725-0115 - Gloversville, NY. This is a non-profit, compassionate organization devoted to securing permanent, responsible, loving homes for the animals of Fulton County. The organization strives to achieve its mission through education and prevention of animal suffering.
- Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society - 518-434-8128 - Menands, NY. This group has been providing shelter for stray, abused, and unwanted animals since 1887. Our refuge receives over 12,000+ animals annually from Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Columbia Counties. Remember that the animals that we call "Pets" have been domesticated to the extent that they depend on their human companions for all the necessities for their entire life. When their owners can no longer meet their needs, the animals are brought here where they are welcomed and given the care they need until they are adopted into new homes.

- Animal Protective Foundation - 518-374-3944 - www.animalprotective.org - The purpose of this foundation located in Schenectady is to promote, through education and appropriate action, the elimination of pet over-population, the elmination of animal suffering, the enhancement of human/animal relationships, and to operate a facility adequate to provide maximum care to the animals in need.
- Columbia Greene Humane Society - 518-828-6044 - Hudson, NY. This was founded in 1955 and dedicates itself to the protection, humane treatment and well-being of all animals. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to halting and preventing animal abuse, neglect and abandonment; sheltering and finding loving homes for animals in need; and educating the public about the proper treatment of our animal friends. - Saratoga County Animal Shelter - 518-885-4113 - Ballston Spa, NY. This page is updated weekly sometimes daily with the dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and small animals that are available for adoption.

- Whiskers - Albany, NY. Whiskers Animal Benevolent League is a small, volunteer run, no-kill animal shelter in Albany. Whiskers came into existence in 1982. We believe all life has value and all animals have a right to their lives and to health and happiness. We euthanize only in cases of terminal illness, and most of the animals in our shelter are not caged. (We give new meaning to the words Cat House!)

Local Rescue Groups
- Peppertree Resue, Inc. - 518-435-7425 - Albany, NY. This is a well-established rescue group that focuses on finding homes for dogs of good temperament.
- Animal Lovers - 518-448-5468. Animal Lovers save lives. Since the summer of 1995, Animal Lovers' volunteers have been rescuing and finding new homes for stray and unwanted dogs and cats all over the Capital Region. Our not-for-profit group provides foster homes, veterinary care, nutritious food and a lot of love to the animals in its care. Each cat and dog is carefully matched with its new adoptive family.
- Companion Animal Placement Program - This is a non-profit, all volunteer group that provides support to individual pet owners, shelters, and other animal rescue organizations by assisting in the placement of homeless animals. Since 1995, CAPP's volunteers have been involved in the rescue and placement of hundreds of homeless animals.

- Greyhound Rescue of New York - We are the original New York Tate Greyhound Rescue Group and are a non-profit organization composed of volunteers. Operations are funded by donations, adoptions and fund raisers. We work with the animal to provide training and association to a non-track environment and help to match the dog to the appropriate adopter after spending time in a foster home learning their personality and compatibility.
