New Shelter
On 12/16/08, the County Board of Supervisors approved to move the plans for the new shelter into the design phase. The Board gave CT Male of Latham the go ahead to start the new design. The comfort and stress reduction of the animals will be the main objective during this phase.
5/11/09 - The design development phase is complete and the Buildings and Grounds Committee voted to enter into phase 3 Construction Documents. This should take approximately 2 months and then the project should be ready to go out for bidding.
9/30/09 - The ground breaking ceremony was held on Wednesday September 30 at 11:00 am for the new animal shelter. The ground-breaking ceremony was held across from the current animal shelter and was opened to the public. Ground breaking ceremony news article
A few areas that will enrich the animals stay at the shelter:
- There will be total separation of species. This will help the stress level of our feline residents.
- A nice adoption area that is quiet and odor free.
- A separate entrance for residents surrendering or claiming their pets.
- An area for the Animal Control Officers.
- An isolation and strict isolation area.
- A spay/neuter surgical area.
- An animal bathing and drying area.
- Commercial washer and dryers for the animals bedding.
- Commercial dish washer for the animal's dishes, litter pans and toys.
- Exam rooms.
- A multi purpose room for meetings, school groups, and animal assessments.
- A canine and feline adoption office.
- A staff and volunteer break room.
- Two pet features rooms.
The new shelter will have air conditioning and an air exchange system for the health and comfort of the animals. This will provide a nice atmosphere, cool and odor free , for the employees and customers coming to the Shelter to adopt or visit.

The staff and I here at the Shelter hope everyone is as pleased and excited as we are about this new venture.
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors has set up a trust account for the funds that have been donated for the new Animal Shelter the list of donors has grown significantly over the past two years with a total of $326,261.00 being donated as of today. These donations will be used for the following:
- Equipment for the Surgical Suite(spay /neuter) area.
- 2 large exercise pens for the dogs
- 8 get acquainted areas that will be covered from the weather for our adopters to interact with the dogs.
- Equipment for the exam rooms
