Naloxone, sold under the name brand Narcan, is a safe medication that can save someone’s life by reversing the effects of an opioid overdose. It comes as a nasal spray that can be administered with minimal training.

Public facing businesses and organizations are more likely to encounter an individual that is experiencing an overdose. All local businesses and organizations can help by training staff on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, administer Narcan and have Narcan available. The Good Samaritan law protects those who administer Narcan.

Businesses and organizations located within Saratoga County can request free Narcan training from the SCDOH. The training takes about 15 minutes and free Narcan kits are provided. 60-minute presentations are also available for businesses that are interested in providing a more thorough training. If you are already trained on how to administer Narcan, we can provide your establishment with free Narcan kits.
