Adult Protective Services (APS)
APS serves adults (age 18 and older) who, due to physical or mental impairments are unable to protect themselves from abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, or other harm; and have no one available who is willing and able to assist responsibly.

Services provided (directly or through referral) may range from safety monitoring; linkages with other service providers (health, mental health, aging, etc.); assistance in obtaining benefits; informal money management; housing assistance; representative payee assistance; or legal intervention where appropriate. Services are provided without regard to income and are based on the guiding principles of the individual’s right to self-determination and the least restrictive alternative.

Homecare
Adult Services staff provide case management and coordinate homecare services for individuals over the age of 21 who need long-term care. The department contracts with home health care agencies to provide homecare services and incidental household tasks. Adult Services’ caseworkers work with the consumer and their family to assist them in obtaining services necessary for consumers to remain in their home safely. Assistance may include obtaining and maintaining eligibility programs; procuring needed prescriptions and medical equipment; advocating on housing and other legal issues.

Adult Preventive Services
Adult Services staff respond to referral including but not limited to substandard housing, no heat or power, pending disconnect, pending eviction, affordable housing need, and information and referral to other services.

Housing Assistance
Adult Services staff offer assistance to individuals and families facing homelessness or in need of assistance with community resources.

Homemaker Services
Home Service Coordinators provide environmental supports such as shopping, errands, laundry and light housekeeping to individuals determined in need of assistance. Coordinators also provide educational and organizational services to clients who are physically capable of maintaining their home but lack the skills to do so.
