BALLSTON SPA, NY – Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman, Phil Barrett, today announced the County will utilize a community solar credit program to improve its energy management and save taxpayers more than $2.4 million across 15 years.
Read more...The County will purchase credits from three local Nexamp local farms: Hacadam Hill Solar, LLC (Hacadam Hill), Middleline East Solar LLC (Middleline East), and Middleline West Solar LLC (Middleline West). These credits will be applied to the county’s National Grid accounts, lowering the county’s monthly utility bill. The County projects cost savings of $164,000 annually and more than $2.4 million over a 15-year period.
Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Phil Barrett (Clifton Park), said, “By purchasing solar credits, Saratoga County can reduce long-term energy costs, allowing taxpayers to benefit from the lower utility expenses and continue our long-held approach to ensuring the efficient use of public funds. Utilizing the solar credit program is just one more example of our commitment to using taxpayer dollars wisely in Saratoga County.”
“Community solar is a powerful way for municipalities to realize meaningful savings and deliver environmental benefits to their residents,” said Cameron Johnston, Vice President of Energy Sales at Nexamp. “Saratoga County is making a strategic, forward-thinking choice by embracing this opportunity. Not only does this agreement help increase the availability of clean energy on the grid, but it also helps lower energy costs while freeing financial resources that can be directed back into the needs of the community.”
Nexamp, the nation’s largest community solar company, built, owns, and operates these three solar farms as part of its national portfolio of hundreds of projects. The County’s energy consultants, EGS Advanced Energy Solutions, Inc., have recommended that the County enter into agreements with these local solar farms to purchase solar energy credits for a term of 15 years, with an option to renew each agreement for up to two additional five-year terms.
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors approved the community solar agreement at its April Board Meeting through Resolutions 105 of 2025, 106 of 2025, and 107 of 2025.
