Administrator’s Message – Fall 2026
As the leaves begin to turn and the pace of summer slows, Saratoga County settles into one of the most beautiful times of year. From apple picking and pumpkin patches to our downtowns getting ready for the holiday season, fall is a wonderful reminder of why so many of us are proud to call this County home.

Fall is also budget season here at the County, as we begin putting together next year’s spending plan — and with that comes renewed interest from residents and businesses about how their tax dollars are being spent at the county level. So this fall, we wanted to share something a little different: a first-of-its-kind report that puts Saratoga County’s numbers side-by-side with all 57 counties across New York State (outside New York City).

The County Comparisons 2026 Report breaks down, in plain language, how counties across the state compare on things like:

Total county budget and spending per resident
Property tax rates and sales tax rates
How much sales tax revenue gets shared back with local towns, cities, and villages
Staffing levels, measured as residents served per county employee

Each measure is ranked independently, using the same publicly available data sources for every county, so residents can see where Saratoga County stands relative to its peers on any given metric. The report also explains what each measure means and some of the many factors that can affect how counties compare — since no single number tells the whole story of how a county operates.

Outside Agency Funding
The Board of Supervisors recognizes that there are outside organizations that provide valuable services to the people of Saratoga County that ensure our high quality of life. These organizations can be related to many aspects of community life: recreational, educational, youth, economic development, social services, etc. Funding for outside agency grants is allocated each year through the annual budget process and contingent upon available resources. The grant application is made available and posted on this page in August each year.
