Spring 2024 Message from County Administrator Steve Bulger
As we move forward into the Spring throughout Saratoga County, there’s a lot of excitement and optimism building for another great season of warm weather events and activities here. No question that leading the way is the June 6th through 9th Belmont Festival at Saratoga, as we welcome the final leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown to our County for the first time ever. All indications are that tens of thousands of visitors will be flocking to Saratoga Springs and other areas throughout the County to take in what is an international level sporting event. A weeklong series of concerts, performances and other celebrations and festivities will be held that will make the Belmont at Saratoga one for the record books!

The County received more good news when Global Foundries announced it will receive over $1.5 billion from the Federal CHIPS Act to expand operations at its Malta site. This will include growth of their current manufacturing operations, and the construction of another chip fab manufacturing facility that in total are expected to create over 1,500 high paying jobs and help attract additional investments and companies that want to locate here as part of GF’s supply chain. This is a significant long-term commitment that highlights the County’s focus on economic development to help secure a prosperous future for our residents.

Finally, we continue to wage war on the scourge of addiction and drug abuse that has become one of our biggest challenges for public health and safety. Numerous investments by our Board of Supervisors, such as the new Spectrometer drug detection machine and expanding our Certified Peer Recovery Advocates programs to our schools and veterans, are starting to have a positive impact, but we have a long way to go. Saratoga County leadership is committed to do all we can to fight this illegal drug threat, and we are fortunate to have the full support of our Sheriff Mike Zurlo and District Attorney Karen Heggen as well.

Here at County Government, we are focused on constantly improving the delivery and efficiency of services that our residents expect and deserve, as Saratoga County continues to enjoy both the lowest Sales Tax and Property Tax Rates in the entire State, which we believe are the two key drivers of our growth and success.
