The mission of the Saratoga County Probation Department is to affect positive change in juvenile and criminal offender behavior through the use of evidence-based probation practice, consistent with the rules and regulations set forth by the New York State Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (OPCA), thereby enhancing public safety through the reduction of recidivism.

Probation staff members work in the interest of the public and with the understanding that excellence is expected in the performance of our duties. The public entrusts the Probation Department with the responsibility of affecting long-term behavioral change and to hold accountable those offenders whose behavior places them at risk of re-offense.

The Adult Services Unit completes probation reports for the Courts in Saratoga County which aid the Courts in determining the appropriate dispositions for offenders. In addition, the Probation Department provides supervision of the adult offenders who are placed on probation.
The Saratoga County Probation Department recognizes the importance of sustained employment for individuals under community supervision. Employment provides individuals with a means to self-sufficiency and the ability to support their families, as well as the capacity to structure their time in positive ways. Probation also understands the needs of area employers and their ability to ask questions of Probation Officers about work schedules and other work environment related issues. Accordingly, the Saratoga County Probation Department has designated a single point of contact, a Probation Employment Liaison Officer, to be available for communication with area employers.

Please feel free to contact Probation Supervisor Mickey Mahoney at 518-884-4120 if you are an area employer who has any general questions about probation conditions relating to employment, employment opportunities for individuals on probation, or if you have any other employment related questions or concerns pertaining to an individual’s employment while on probation.

The Juvenile Services Unit provides three major services:
• Intake of incoming Person in Need of Supervision (PINS) & juvenile delinquency cases which are diverted from the Family Court and supervised and adjusted by the Probation Department.
• The completion of Pre-Dispositional Investigations of juveniles referred to Family Court.
• The supervision of juveniles sentenced by Family Court to probation, Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal (ACOD), or Conditional Discharge.
