Sheriff Jeffrey R. Brown, a lifelong Saratoga County resident, was elected County Sheriff in November 2025 and took office on January 1, 2026. Jeff began his career as a Deputy Sheriff on the road patrol of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office in September of 1998. In May of 2005, Jeff was promoted to the rank of Investigator assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit where he also served as a Crime Scene Specialist and Crisis Negotiator. In 2014, Jeff was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. In this role Jeff supervised the department’s Investigators, commanded large incidents and investigations, and began instructing at the Zone Five Police Academy. In April of 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Captain assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division which consists of the Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Units. Jeff was promoted by Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo to the rank of Undersheriff in May 2023. He served as Undersheriff until he began serving as the elected County Sheriff. During his time at the Sheriff’s Office, Jeff has been involved in the investigation of numerous high-profile cases and has attended many advanced police investigation and leadership training classes.
