Temporary Assistance (TA), also known as Public Assistance, is temporary help for needy adults and families. TA may provide benefits and support for those who do not have sufficient income to pay for basic needs.

The two primary Temporary Assistance programs are Family Assistance and Safety Net Assistance. These programs provide the same level of assistance to a household but serve different populations and have some different rules.

DSS staff works with individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency and independence. This may include assistance with identification and removal of barriers to employment and provision of resources to support employment readiness. Visit the Temporary Assistance webpage for additional information.

• Homelessness
