Employment Readiness Program
A year-round program for youth ages 14 to 24.

A year-round program for eligible youth to explore career and education pathways with the support of the youth program counselor. This is a self-driven program with youth at the steering wheel. The program is tailored to meet each youth, program counselor is available to provide supportive services to overcome any current potential barrier(s) to youth’s goals. All youth within the program are provided the opportunity to learn how to manage their finance, identify utilize their strengths to achieve their educational and career goals, participate in work experience, internships, apprenticeships, develop leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and gain occupational skills training. A few examples of goals achieve by youth previously enrolled in the program are completion of their High School Equivalency (GED); acceptance into college trade school, completion of college, trade school programs, and obtaining a job within their field of interest.

Eligibility for the program varies and is dependent on multiple factors. Any interested youth should contact the youth program counselor to determine eligibility.

Summer Youth Employment Program
An eight-week program for youth ages 14 to 21.

The Summer Youth Employment Program SYEP is an eight-week summer program for eligible youth to earn money, receive initial financial literacy education, and gain basic employment readiness soft skills with the support of a youth program counselor. Youth are matched with one of the numerous worksites throughout Saratoga County. Jobs that have been available to the youth in previous years include but are not limited to: landscaping, maintenance workers, summer camp counselors, and library page.

Eligibility for the program is based on household income. Applications for SYEP are available in late March or early April or each year.

All jobs are given on a first come first serve basis. Any interested youth having questions about the program or the application should contact the youth program counselor.

EMT Career Pathways Program
Saratoga County Workforce Development launched the EMT Career Pathway for Youth Pilot Program in June 2022. Born out of the need for current and future first responders, the program is designed to be the first step in a lifelong dedication to public service and greater medical careers for participants. The County created a community-based collaboration to provide students the structure and supports needed for success, partnering with the Town of Clifton Park, Clifton Park-Halfmoon EMS, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), and Shenendehowa High School (Shen).

The program enrolls eligible high school students at Hudson Valley Community College at the HVCC TEC-SMART campus in Malta. The program encompasses 140 hours of instruction and practical lab time in addition to 10 patient ride-alongs with Clifton Park-Halfmoon EMS. At completion, students earn seven college credits and are eligible to take the New York State EMT exam.

Saratoga County is expanding this program to 18 students in 2023.

Youth GED Program
A GED program in partnership with WSWHE BOCES for out of school youth ages 16 to 24.

Participation in the youth GED program requires enrollment in the Employment Readiness Program and space is limited.
