Community Forum “Understanding Heroin and Opioid Abuse”

For Immediate Release February 2, 2018 Media Contact: Ridge Harris, 518-378-6530   “Understanding Heroin and Opioid Abuse” forum  to be hosted by Saratoga County County officials hope to combat the opioid epidemic through education SARATOGA COUNTY — Stillwater Supervisor Ed Kinowski, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and Halfmoon Supervisor Kevin Tollisen announced today that an educational community forum, “Understanding Heroin and Opioid Abuse,” will be held on February 5, 2018, at Mechanicville High School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Saratoga County recently declared the opioid epidemic a “public nuisance” and have filed a lawsuit against opioid producers and manufacturers for the deceptive marketing tactics they’ve employed that have led to addiction. This forum will feature of a diverse panel of people who have seen the negative effects of opioid addiction. They include law enforcement, treatment providers, and family members of victims. There will be an opportunity for public discussion after the panel presentation and a short video. Recovery experts will be on hand to answer questions, and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is holding a prescription take back at the event. Additionally, a one-hour Narcan training will be available prior to the panel beginning at 5:15 PM.
