Pistol Permit Services

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department processes Pistol Permits for Saratoga County residents. For questions on new applications, amendments to a current license (including acquiring a gun, disposing of a gun, name/address change or obtaining a duplicate permit) or transferring a permit out of Saratoga County, please contact the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department or visit their website at www.saratogacountysheriff.org.

Access to Pistol Permit Records

An individuals pistol permit record including application, amendments, and transfers are available to be viewed in the County Clerk’s Office only by the permit holder. This may be done in person at the County Clerk’s Office or by mailing an original notarized Request for Information. Requests by mail should include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Transferring Your Pistol Permit to Saratoga County

To transfer your Pistol Permit to Saratoga County, you must contact the Pistol Permit Department of the county you are transferring your Pistol Permit from. Saratoga County Clerk’s Office charges a $5.00 fee to complete the transfer process. Please request that the county you are transferring from attaches the fee to your pistol permit transfer. Accepted forms of payment include cash, money order or in-state checks. Checks should be made payable to Saratoga County Clerk’s Office and state your current address and phone number. The Saratoga County Sherriff’s Department will contact you after the file is received and the fee has been processed.

NY Safe Act Recertification

New York State firearms law now has certain requirements for pistol permit holders. The County Clerk’ Office does not handle this recertification process.
